A pristine record of outer Solar System materials from asteroid Ryugu’s returned sample

چکیده

Abstract Volatile and organic-rich C-type asteroids may have been one of the main sources Earth’s water. Our best insight into their chemistry is currently provided by carbonaceous chondritic meteorites, but meteorite record biased: only strongest types survive atmospheric entry are then modified interaction with terrestrial environment. Here we present results a detailed bulk microanalytical study pristine Ryugu particles, brought to Earth Hayabusa2 spacecraft. particles display close compositional match chemically unfractionated, aqueously altered, CI (Ivuna-type) chondrites, which widely used as proxy for Solar System composition. The sample shows an intricate spatial relationship between aliphatic-rich organics phyllosilicates indicates maximum temperatures ~30 °C during aqueous alteration. We find that heavy hydrogen nitrogen abundances consistent outer origin. most uncontaminated unfractionated extraterrestrial materials studied so far, provide available

Improvement of thermal performance of a solar chimney based on a passive solar heating system with phase-change materials

Passive solar systems such as solar chimneys need solar radiation in order to work. Therefore, they cannot present stable natural ventilation when solar energy vanishes: to have a more robust and stable condition, solar energy should be stored during the day and released back during the night. Phase change materials can save additional thermal energy during the day and release it during the...

The outer solar system

The outer solar system extends beyond a heliocentric distance of 5AU. It contains the giant planets and their systems (rings and satellites), the Kuiper belt, the comets (except those which approach episodically the inner solar system) and, at its outer edge, the Oort cloud. The outer solar system physically corresponds to the region located outside the « snow line » which corresponded to the d...

Comparative laboratory study of materials returned to Earth from the Itokawa asteroid with particles collected in the stratosphere

Description: Samples from extra-terrestrial objects that are available for detailed investigation in the laboratory are particularly important to advance our understanding of the formation and evolution of our solar system, where sophisticated instrumentation can be deployed to unlock the secrets they contain. The most primitive and pristine materials are the most useful, but also the rarest sa...

Images of asteroid 21 Lutetia: a remnant planetesimal from the early Solar System.

Images obtained by the Optical, Spectroscopic, and Infrared Remote Imaging System (OSIRIS) cameras onboard the Rosetta spacecraft reveal that asteroid 21 Lutetia has a complex geology and one of the highest asteroid densities measured so far, 3.4 ± 0.3 grams per cubic centimeter. The north pole region is covered by a thick layer of regolith, which is seen to flow in major landslides associated ...
